The first edition of Miss Universe will take place at the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium in Long Beach, California, United States on June 28, 1952. “The Prince Who was a Thief” star Piper Laurie will attend the international beauty pageant to crown the inaugural queen.

The winner will wear with the Romanov Imperial Nuptial Crown. The crown of Catherine the Great of Russia was loaned to the international beauty pageant.

Miss Universe was organized by Catalina Swimwear manufacturer Pacific Knitting Mills. Based in California, United States, the clothing company was the sponsor of Miss America.

When Miss America 1951 Yolande Betbeze refused to pose for publicity pictures wearing Catalina Swimwear, Pacific Knitting Mills decided to pull out from Miss America. This led to the birth of Miss Universe.

Originally, Rosa Adela “Nenela” Prunell was the representative of Uruguay. She was replaced by Gladys Rubio Fajardo.
