Jewish Agency head David Ben-Gurion declared the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz-Israel to be known as the State of Israel on May 14, 1948. The country’s flag was adopted on October 28, 1948.
On May 11, 1949, Israel was admitted as a member of the United Nations by majority vote. On November 19, 1951, the Knesset reelected Chaim Weizmann as President of Israel.
In 1950, Israel crowned the winner of the inaugural edition of the national beauty pageant called Malkat MaYofi (מלכת היופי), which literally means The Beauty Queen. Michal Herison became her successor in 1951.
On June 28, 1952, Ora Jamili represented Israel at the inaugural Miss Universe 1952 at the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium in Long Beach, California, United States. She competed against 29 other candidates and was unplaced.
On October 19, 1953, Havatzelet Drillman represented Israel at Miss World 1953 at the Lyceum Ballroom in London, England, United Kingdom. She competed against 14 other candidates and was unplaced.
