Miss Universe 1958 Luz Marina Zuluaga, 20, of Colombia will crown her successor at the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium in Long Beach, California, United States on July 24, 1959. It is the eighth edition of the international beauty pageant organized by Catalina Swimwear manufacturer Pacific Knitting Mills, which is based in California.

Philippines’ Christine Matias, New Zealand’s Arlenne Nesgitt and the United Arab Republic’s Nawal Ramli withdrew from the competition. Sodsai Vanijvadhana, an exchange student at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Los Angeles, California, was appointed as Thailand’s representative.

Including Vanijvadhana, 34 women are competing for the Miss Universe 1959 crown. Here is the list of candidates:
