Shu Ming Tang and his wife were originally from Taiwan. They later immigrated to California, United States to provide a better life for their family.

Tang was the owner of the Devonshire Little Store, a mom-and-pop shop in San Carlos, San Mateo County, California. He was tending the store when he was shot in the chest just before 1:00 p.m. on April 26, 1993.

Police found Tang unresponsive inside the store. He was suffering from a single gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

A woman in her mid-20s allegedly shot Tang. Authorities believe it was a robbery gone wrong.

The female suspect was said to have medium-brown straight hair past her shoulders. She was reportedly last seen leaving the Devonshire Little Store in a faded blue 1970s station wagon.

In July 1993, Tang’s wife sold the store to Chung Sun, who also immigrated to the U.S. from Taiwan. He and his wife Ann Sun live in San Carlos.

In September 1993, details of the fatal shooting of Tang were broadcast on “America’s Most Wanted” on Fox. Not much was revealed about the woman who allegedly shot the Taiwanese man.

“America’s Most Wanted”

“America’s Most Wanted” was created by Michael Linder and Stephen Chao. The latter was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA to Chinese parents.

On February 7, 1988, “America’s Most Wanted” premiered on Fox. The concept for the television program originally from “Aktenzeichen XY… ungelöst“, which premiered in Germany on October 20, 1967, and “Crimewatch“, which premiered on BBC One on June 7, 11984.

San Carlos, California

A group of Native Americans called the Lamchins occupied the land of San Carlos before the Spanish arrived in 1769. The Lamchins referred to the area of their primary residence as Cachanihtac.

At the end of the 19th century, there were fewer than one hundred houses and families in San Carlos. When it was incorporated on July 8, 1925, it had around 600 residents, which grew to 5,000 in 1941.

“The Loveless” and “Near Dark” director Kathryn Ann Bigelow was born in San Carlos. Also born in the city was Kevin McCarthy, who became the main director of “Jeopardy!” in 1992.
