Charcthua Karnasuta held the Miss Universe franchise in Thailand, which started in 1984. He was the managing director of BBTV, which operates Channel 7, and the president of the Vajiravudh College Alumni Association, which owns the Miss Thailand beauty pageant.
In 1998, Karnasuta suffered paralysis so his sister Surang Prempree became the BBTV managing director and Thailand’s Miss Universe license holder. She started a new standalone beauty pageant titled Miss Thailand Universe and Kulthida Yenprasert became the inaugural winner in 2000.
With 44 candidates, the second edition of the national beauty pageant that selects Thailand’s Miss Universe candidate was held at the Sofitel Centara Grand Hotel Bangkok in Bangkok, Thailand. Here are the winners :

On May 11, 2001, Phadoongvithee represented Thailand at Miss Universe 2001 and competed against 76 other candidates at the Coliseo Rubén Rodríguez in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. She was unplaced.
Currently, Thailand has five Miss Universe placements. These include two crowns won by Apasra Hongsakula in 1965 and Porntip Nakhirunkanok in 1988.
