Claudia Henkel was 22 years old when she represented South Africa at Miss Universe 2004 at the Impact Arena in Nonthaburi, Thailand on May 31, 2005. She competed against 80 other candidates including Canada’s Natalie Glebova, who won the title.
Runner-up to Glebova was Puerto Rico’s Cynthia Olavarria and the respective second, third and fourth runners-up were Dominican Republic’s Renata Soñé, Mexico’s Laura Elizondo and Venezuela’s Monica Spear. Henkel finished in the Top 15.
Seven months later, Henkel crowned Nokuthula Sithole as the next Miss South Africa. The latter will represent South Africa at Miss Universe 2006.
