This is Springsteen’s first album that does not contain any original song. It has 13 folk songs popularized by New York City native Peter Seeger.
One of the songs in the album is a gospel song titled “We Shall Overcome”. It was published as “We Will Overcome” in an edition of the People’s Songs Bulletin in 1947 with an introduction by Zilphia Horton, who taught the song to Seeger.
On April 11, 1956, Horton died in Nashville, Tennessee, USA at age 45. On May 3, 2005, Seeger turned 86.
On September 23, 2005, Springsteen turned 56. He was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, USA, which is around 55 miles away from New York City.
