Jorge Masvidal, 22, of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States was one of the winners at “BodogFIGHT: Clash of the Nations“. It was the Cuban-Peruvian-American mixed martial artist’s second bout in the MMA promotion founded by Calvin Ayre, 45.
Featuring six MMA matches, “BodogFIGHT: Clash of the Nations” was held in Saint Petersburg, Russia on December 15, 2006. The second match was a welterweight bout between Masvidal and Steve Berger, 33, of St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
After three 5-minute rounds, the referee raised the hand of Masvidal. The fighter from Miami was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Losing to Masvidal downgraded Berger’s professional MMA record to 18 wins, 16 losses and 2 draws. The fighter from St. Louis made his professional MMA debut on January 15, 1998.
On the other hand, Masvidal now has 10 wins and 3 losses. It was his first professional MMA fight in Russia and second outside the U.S.
Masvidal is 5’11” tall. He is a former lightweight.
Born and raised in Miami, Masvidal attended St. Brendan High School in Westchester, Miami-Dade County. While in high school, he competed in wrestling but he failed to stay eligible because of his grades.
On May 24, 2003, Masvidal made his professional MMA debut. He was crowned the new Absolute Fighting Championship Welterweight Champion in Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida on June 24, 2006 and he made his BodogFIGHT debut in San Jose, Costa Rica on August 22, 2006.
