Serbia won the 52nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. This marks the first time the European country won the international song competition launched in 1956.
Representing Serbia was “Molitva“, which was composed by Vladimir Graić and recorded by Marija Šerifović. The lyrics were written by Saša Milošević Mare.
The State Union of Serbia and Montenegro was formed on April 27, 1992 and dissolved in June 2006. Born in Belgrade, Serbia, Mare turned 38 on August 7, 2006.
Born in Kragujevac, Serbia, Šerifović turned 22 on November 14, 2006. Born in Belgrade, Graić turned 39 on February 19, 2007.
From March 7-8, 2007, Šerifović performed “Molitva” as an entry at Beovizija 2007. As the winner, the song represented Serbia at Eurovision Song Contest 2007.
Runner-up to “Molitva” is Ukraine’s entry “Dancing Lasha Tumbai“, which was written by Andriy Mykhailovych Danylko (Андрій Михайлович Данилко). He recorded the song in his drag persona Verka Serduchka.
Born in Poltava, Ukraine, Danylko is Svitlana Volkova‘s son. In 1980, his father died of lung cancer.
Danylko is an alumnus of Poltava Secondary School No. 27 in Poltava and e Kyiv Municipal Academy of Variety and Circus Arts in Kyiv, Ukraine. On October 2, 2006, he turned 33.
