Jorge Masvidal, 23, of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States has earned his second World Victory Road victory. Founded in 2007 and based in Tokyo, Japan, the mixed martial arts promotion promotes the Sengoku Raiden Championship.
Featuring 11 MMA matches, “World Victory Road Presents: Sengoku 6” was held at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan on November 1, 2008. The sixth match was a Sengoku Lightweight Grand Prix reserve bout between Masvidal and Tae Hyun Bang, 25, of Seoul, South Korea.
Tomoki Matsumiya served as the referee. After three 5-minute rounds, he raised the hand of Masvidal, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
The victory improved Masvidal’s professional MMA record to 16 wins and 3 losses. It was the Miami resident’s third professional MMA fight in Japan.
On the other hand, Bang now has 14 wins and 6 losses. He made his professional MMA debut on July 17, 2004.
Before becoming a professional MMA fighter, Masvidal competed in one of the backyard brawls of his fellow Miami resident Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson, 34. Masvidal competed in wrestling while attending St. Brendan High School in Westchester, Miami-Dade County.
Masvidal previously competed in Absolute Fighting Championship, BodogFIGHT and Crazy Horse Fights. On June 24, 2006, he was crowned the AFC Welterweight Champion in Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida.
On July 14, 2007, Masvidal knocked out Ultimate Fighting Championship alum Yves Edwards in their BodogFIGHT match in Trenton, New Jersey, USA. Both Ferguson and Edwards were born in Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas.
