Jorge Masvidal, 24, of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States and Nick Agallar, 30, of Racine, Racine County, Wisconsin, USA headlined the first ever Bellator Fighting Championships event. Based in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA, the mixed martial arts promotion was founded by Bjorn Rebney.

Held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood in Hollywood on April 3, 2009, the promotion’s inaugural event featured 11 MMA matches. In the main event, Masvidal and Agallar battled it out in the lightweight division.

Jason Herzog served as the referee. He stopped the fight after 1 minute and 19 seconds in the first round when Masvidal defeated Agallar via technical knockout via punches.

The victory improved Masvidal’s professional MMA record to 17 wins and 3 losses. On the other hand, Agallar now has 21 wins and 6 losses.

Masvidal and Agallar competed in different matches at “BodogFIGHT: To the Brink of War” in San José, Costa Rica on August 22, 2006. Masvidal defeated Keith Wisniewski via majority decision while Agallar defeated Nardu Debrah via technical knockout via punches.

Aside from BodogFIGHT, Masvidal also previously competed in Absolute Fighting Championship and Crazy Horse Fights. He was undefeated from May 24, 2003 to May 1, 2004.

On June 24, 2006, Masvidal was crowned the AFC Welterweight Champion in Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida. On July 14, 2007, he knocked out Ultimate Fighting Championship alum Yves Edwards in their BodogFIGHT match in Trenton, New Jersey, USA.
