While pursuing a bachelor’s degree in media and communication at the Nanyang Technology University of Singapore, Faraliza Tan was crowned Miss Singapore World 2008. She competed against 22 other candidates.

Tan was 22 when she won the title. She is fluent in Chinese, Malay and English.

On December 13, 2008, Tan represented Singapore at Miss World 2008 at the Santon Convention Center in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. She competed against 108 other candidates including Ksenia Sukhinova of Russia, who won the title.

Runner-up to Sukhinova was Parvathy Omanakuttan of India was the second runner-up was Gabrielle Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago. Tan was unplaced.

On July 31, 2009, Tan crowned Ris Low as the next Miss Singapore World. The latter will represent Singapore at Miss World 2009.
