Chutima Durongdej of Bangkok, Thailand was 23 years old when she was crowned Miss Thailand Universe 2009 at the Sofitel Centara Grand in Bangkok on March 28, 2009. She competed against 43 other candidates.
On August 23, 2009, Durongdej represented Thailand at Miss Universe 2009 at the Imperial Ballroom on the Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas. She competed against 82 other candidates including Stefania Fernandez of Venezuela, who won the title.
Runner-up to Fernandez was Ada de la Cruz of the Dominican Republic. The respective second, third and fourth runners-up were Marigona Dragusha of Kosovo, Rachael Finch of Australia and Mayra Matos of Puerto Rico.
Durongdej was unplaced but she won the Miss Photogenic award. On March 20, 2010, she went back to the Sofitel Centara Grand in Bangkok and crowned Fonthip Watcharatrakul of Samut Prakan, Thailand as the next Miss Thailand Universe.
Watcharatrakul is 19 years old. She will represent the country at Miss Universe 2011.
