Rafael Nadal Parera was born in Manacor, Mallorca, Spain to Sebastián Nadal Homar and Ana María Parera Femenías. Also born in Manacor, Sebastian’s brother Miguel Angel Nadal played football professionally from 1983 to 2005.

On June 3, 2010, Rafael turned 24. On September 13, 2010, he won the men’s singles of the 130th edition of the U.S. Open Tennis Championships.

Runner-up to Rafael was Belgrade, Serbia native Novak Đoković. In the semifinals, Moscow, Russia native Mikhail Mikhailovich Youzhny lost to Rafael and Valbella, Switzerland native Roger Federer lost to Djokovic.

In the quarterfinals, Madrid, Spain native Fernando Verdasco Carmona lost to Rafael and Paris, France native Gaël Monfils lost to Djokovic. Stans, Switzerland native Stan Wawrinka lost to Youzhny and Tibro, Sweden native Robin Bo Carl Söderling lost to Federer.

Federer and Youzhny became professional tennis players in 1998 in 1999, respectively, and in 2001, Rafael, Söderling and Verdasco also turned professional. Wawrinka, Djokovic and Monfils made their respective professional debuts in 2002, in 2003 and in 2004.

On November 15, 2009, Verdasco turned 26. On March 28, 2010, Wawrinka turned 25.

On May 22, 2010, Djokovic turned 23. On June 25, 2010, Youzhny turned 28.

On August 8, 2010, Federer turned 29 and on August 14, 2010, Söderling turned 26. On September 1, 2010, Monfils turned 24.

Wawrinka and Youzhny are 6’0″ tall while Rafael and Federer are 6’1″ tall and Verdasco and Djokovic are 6’2″ tall. Söderling and Monfils are 6’4″ tall.
