Dricus du Plessis, 19, of Hatfield, Pretoria, South Africa is now a professional mixed martial artist. He is an alumnus of Hoërskool Hartbeespoort High School in Hartbeespoort, North West, South Africa.
Born in Hatfield, du Plessis started training judo in 1999 and kickboxing in 2008. In 2012, he became the first ever World Association of Kickboxing Organizations K-1 World Champion from South Africa by winning the WAKO Junior K-1 World Championship title.
Du Plessis is 6’0″ tall. As a professional MMA fighter, he competes in the middleweight division.
On July 25, 2013, du Plessis made his professional MMA debut at “EFC 21“. The Extreme Fighting Championship held the event at the Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa.
There were 13 MMA matches on the “EFC 21” card. The fifth match was a middleweight bout between du Plessis and Tshikangu Makuebo, 47, of Johannesburg.
The referee stopped the fight after 1 minute and 18 seconds in the first round. Du Plessis defeated Makuebo via technical knockout via knee injury.
Losing to du Plessis downgraded the professional MMA record of Makuebo to 1 win and 3 losses. The latter is originally from Kinshasa, Congo.
