Li Zhuosheng, 66, is a retired kindergarten teacher. She is the mother of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” star Zhang Ziyi, 35.
Currently, Li is one of the 112 individual shareholders and 11 investing corporations of the Dalian Wanda Commercial Properties. She could earn millions of dollars as the owner of 18 million shares of the company, Want China Times reported.
If it proceeds with its plans to list on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, which is Hong Kong’s biggest listing of a real estate enterprise ever, the company could raise an estimated $6 billion placing Li’s 0.46 percent of company stock value at approximately $261 million. The company is headed by Wang Jianlin, China’s second wealthiest man next to Alibaba founder Jack Ma.
Li is said to have become a shareholder in the company through Song Ge, a producer of the 2009 film “Sophie’s Revenge,” which starred her daughter. Li is reportedly holding the shares for her daughter who rose to fame through several Hollywood films including “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “House of Flying Daggers,” “Rush Hour 2” and “The Grandmaster.”
Most recently, Zhang starred in John Woo’s first film in over four years titled “The Crossing.” Among her co-stars are Takeshi Kaneshiro, Tong Dawei, Huang Xiaoming, Song Hye-kyo and Masami Nagasawa.
Set against the turmoil of revolutionary China in 1949, the story of “The Crossing” revolves around three couples from various backgrounds who attempt to flee China to Taiwan through a voyage on a ship. The screenplay was written by Wang Huiling, a co-writer of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.”
“The Crossing” will hit theaters in China on December 2, 2014 for the first part and May 2015 for the second part. It will also be released in the United States and in the United Kingdom in 2015 but it is yet to be confirmed if it will also be released in two parts.
“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” starred Zhang opposite Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun-Fat. The film is set to be released by Netflix and IMAX as a movie series.
