Korean singer Chae-rin Lee is set to enter the American music industry. She popularly known as CL as the leader of the K-Pop band 2NE1.

On October 16, 2014, CL announced that she is preparing for her debut solo album to be released in the United States in 2015 with the help of Scooter Braun, the executive who also manages Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and “Gangnam Style” hit maker Psy. Aside from having international gigs as a singer-rapper, including a collaboration with Skrillex and Diplo, CL is also known for her appearances on Fashion Week events and modelling for designer Jeremy Scott.

“I was looking back and thinking, ‘I want to have something personal for me,” In February 2013, CL told Billboard in an interview in New York, USA. “With 2NE1, it’s not personal because it’s not only about me; it’s about all the members. We’re more about influencing the world but I have so many things I want to say. I have this other side of me that people didn’t meet in 2NE1.”

When it comes to CL’s ambitions as a musician, she said she wants to represent Asian women. For her, it is important to break the typical Asian female stereotype and “tell the world that there are some badass Asian female girls.”

CL is still signed to YG Entertainment, which recently commented on the rumors that 2NE1 is disbanding since she is entering the US music market. Recently, the Korean record label released a statement saying, “We are aware that Minzy’s SNS account has been receiving attention since yesterday.”

“Minzy personally manages her own Instagram.” YG Entertainment continued. It is absurd that there are rumors that we are in talks concerning 2NE1’s breakup due to what happened on her personal SNS account. The account has been changed back.”

Currently, 2NE1’s album titled “Crush” is still the highest-charting K-Pop album in the U.S. Here is a live performance by the K-Pop group:
