Chris Hemsworth plays an up-and-coming anchorman in “Vacation”, a road comedy film written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. Also in the cast is Ed Helms, who plays a pilot.
Recently, Helms explained Hemsworth’s bulge in one the film’s trailers. In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Helms said, “That scene with the underwear sight gag, I think people look at that and kind of quickly assume, ‘Oh it’s funny because of the underwear sight gag,’ but it’s not.”
“That’s not why it’s funny,” Helms continued. “It’s funny because of Chris’ performance.”
When it comes to deciding on how far to go with Hemsworth’s bulge, Helms said the “Vacation” film’s creative team had a lot of discussions about “what is funny” and “when does it go from funny to horrifying.” Helms pointed out that he was not part of those discussions but he happened to think that the creative team nailed it.
“I hope we see him do a lot more comedy,” Helms said of Hemsworth. According to Helms, he could barely make it through filming the “Vacation” underwear scene with Hemsworth’s bulge, which he said is “exactly what it should be” whatever it is.
Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, “Vacation” will hit theaters in the United States on July 29, 2015. Among Hemsworth and Helms’ co-stars are Christina Applegate, Leslie Mann, Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Case.
