Paulina Vega represented Colombia at Miss Universe 2014 and competed against 87 other candidates at the Florida International University (FIU) Arena in Miami, Florida, United States. She won the title.
On December 20, 2015, Vega went to The AXIS in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA and crowned her successor Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. The latter is the third Miss Universe from the Philippines, following Gloria Diaz and Margarita Moran, who were crowned in 1969 and 1973, respectively.
Steve Harvey hosted the Miss Universe 2015 coronation ceremony. He initially announced Ariadna Gutierrez of Colombia as the winner.
Minutes later, Harvey returned to the stage, apologized and announced that Wurtzbach was Miss Universe 2015 and Gutierrez was the first runner-up. Vega had to remove the winner’s crown and sash from Gutierrez and transfer them to Wurtzbach.
