The Territory of the Wallis and Futuna Islands is a French overseas collectivity in Oceania. Located in the South Pacific, the territory is between Tuvalu to the northwest, Tokelau to the northeast, Samoa to the east, Tonga to the southeast and Fiji to the southwest.
French is the official language in Wallis and Futuna, which separated from New Caledonia on July 29, 1961. Wallis and Futuna became a French overseas collectivity on March 28, 2003.
On November 26, 2014, Mikaele Kulimoetoke, 53, became the territorial assembly president of Wallis and Futuna. On January 19, 2015, Marcel Renouf, 63, assumed office as the administrator superior of the territorial assembly.
