Barbara Filipović is a native of Zagreb, Croatia and an alumna of V. Gimnazija (The Fifth Gymnasium) in Zagreb. She won the 20th edition of Miss Universe Croatia.
Zagreb is the capital of Croatia, which currently has two Miss Universe placements. Representing the European country, Sarah Ćosić finished in the Top 15 in 2009 and Elizabeta Burg finished in the Top 16 in 2012.
On April 15, 2016, Filipović was crowned Miss Universe Croatia 2016 at the Crystal Ballroom of The Westin Hotel in Zagreb. She competed against 19 other candidates.
On May 31, 2016, Filipović turned 19. On January 30, 2017, she represented Croatia at Miss Universe 2016 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
Filipović competed against 85 other candidates including Lille, France native Iris Mittenaere, who won the title. The Croatian representative was unplaced.
On April 28, 2017, Filipović went to Esplanade Zagreb Hotel in Zagreb and crowned Shanaelle Liana Petty as the next Miss Universe Croatia. The latter will represent Croatia at Miss Universe 2017.
