Joshua Pacio, 21, is set to return to the cage at “ONE Championship: Kings and Conquerors.” The opponent of the Team Lakay member is undefeated Japanese fighter Hayato Suzuki, 30.
Suzuki currently holds a record of 16 wins, 0 loss and 2 draws. Most of the opponents he defeated are Japanese and Pacio will be his first Filipino contender.
Pacio was also undefeated from late 2013 to mid-2016. After 8 consecutive wins, he had his first loss on Oct. 7, 2016 at “ONE Championship: State of Warriors” when his Japanese opponent, ONE strawweight world champion Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito, 33, defeated him via rear-naked choke submission.
On March 11, Pacio redeemed himself and defeated his Thai opponent Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke, 38, at “ONE Championship: Warrior Kingdom.” This makes Pacio’s current record 9 wins, 1 loss and 0 draw.
At “ONE Championship: Kings and Conquerors,” Pacio’s fellow Filipino fighters Eric “The Natural” Kelly, 35, and Jomary Torres are in the fight card. Suzuki has two fellow Japanese fighters in the card, as well, namely Kotetsu “No Face” Boku, 40, and Koji “The Commander” Ando, 32.
Kelly will be Boku’s opponent. The latter is the former ONE lightweight world champion, a title currently held by Team Lakay’s top fighter Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 32.
Torres will compete with Thai fighter Rika “Tinydoll” Ishige, 28. Ishige’s fellow Thai fighter Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai, 28, will face Australian fighter Rob “Ruthless” Lisita, 34.
Ando will battle it out with Russian fighter Timofey Nastyukhin, 27. Like Suzuki, Nastyukhin’s fellow fighter Magomed Idrisov will make his ONE Championship debut.
“ONE Championship: Kings and Conquerors” will be held on Aug. 5 at Cotai Arena of The Venetian in Macao, China. It will be headlined by Brazilian ONE bantamweight world champion Bibiano Fernandes, 37, and his American challenger Andrew Leone, 27.
Aside from Fernandes, there are two other Brazilian fighters in the card namely Herbert “The Blaze” Burns, 29, and Leandro Ataides, 30. Burns and Ataides’ respective opponents are Idrisov and Polish fighter Michal Pasternak, 33.
Suzuki is not the only undefeated fighter in the “ONE Championship: Kings and Conquerors” fight card. Chinese fighter Chen “Rock Man” Lei, 47, who currently holds a record of 2 wins and 0 loss, will have to defeat Malaysian fighter Saiful “The Vampire” Merican, 28, to maintain his undefeated record.
Merican’s fellow Malaysian fighter Marc Marcellinus will go against Vietnamese fighter Tran Quang Loc, 27. This will be the debut of the latter as a professional MMA fighter.
