Footballers watch boxing, too. In fact, several NFL stars took to Twitter to comment on Jeff Horn’s controversial win over Manny Pacquiao via unanimous decision at “Battle of Brisbane” on July 2, Sunday.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, 33, is apparently not happy about the decision. For him, the boxing match was rigged.
“Boxing is a joke, and it proves it again tonight,” Rodgers tweeted. “Are you kidding me with those scorecards?”
The “Battle of Brisbane” judges were Chris Flores, Ramon Cerdan and Waleska Roldan. Both Flores and Ramon Cerdan’s scores were 115-113 while Roldan’s score was 117-111 in favor of Horn.
Retired NFL star Deion Sanders, 49, did not agree with these scores. However, instead of slamming Horn and the judges, the former football star tweeted to Pacquiao to praise his classy behavior.
“You’re a better man than many of us,” Sanders tweeted. “I would’ve gone off after that mess.”
For Washington Redskins outside linebacker Junior Galette, 29, this is the second time Pacquiao was robbed. He expressed his disbelief in his tweet implying that the Filipino boxer was also robbed by Bradley in 2012.
“Awwwww no,” Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Noah Brown tweeted. “I know he aint just ask for Floyd.”
Like Rodgers, former Manchester United player Giuseppe Rossi described Horn’s win over Pacquiao as rigged. The Italian footballer tweeted, “What???????? How the hell did Pacquiao lose????? Boxing is so rigged man.”
