Australia’s Reece McLaren submits Philippines’ Mark Striegl at ‘ONE: Spirit of Champions’ in Pasay City

“Lightning” Reece McLaren, 24, of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia was one of the winners at “ONE: Spirit of Champions“. It marked his first ONE Championship victory.

Featuring eight MMA matches, “ONE: Spirit of Champions” was held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on December 11, 2015. In the co-main event of the evening, McLaren fought “Mugen” Mark Striegl, 27, of Baguio City, Philippines in the bantamweight division.

Olivier Coste served as the referee of the bantamweight contest. He stopped the fight after 3 minutes and 33 seconds in the third round when McLaren submitted Striegl via rear-naked choke.

The loss downgraded Striegl’s professional MMA record to 14 wins and 2 losses. It was his second ONE Championship fight.

On the other hand, McLaren now has 8 wins and 3 losses. He made his ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Spirit of Champions”.

A total of 10 countries were represented at “ONE: Valor of Champions” namely Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Poland, Russia, Taiwan, and the United States. McLaren was one of the two fighters from the Australia and Striegl was one of the five fighters representing the host country.

Born in Tokyo, Japan to an American father and a Filipino mother, Striegl attended the University of San Diego and Point Loma Nazarene University, which are both in San Diego, California, USA. He made his professional MMA debut on July 25, 2009 in San Diego and has been a resident of Baguio City since 2011.

Reece was born in Australia to a Filipino father and an Australian mother. Raised by his Australian stepfather, the Filipino-Australian MMA fighter has yet to meet his biological father.
