Featuring the Philippines’ premier R&B singers, the “Soul Brothers” concert will take place on Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. the KIA Theater in Quezon City, Metro Manila. Get to know the three musicians who will take the stage at the upcoming concert:
- Billy Crawford
Currently, Crawford is the host of the Philippine version of “Little Big Shots” and one of the hosts of the variety show “It’s Showtime.” Both shows air on ABS-CBN.
Born Billy Joe Ledesma Crawford in Manila to an American father and a Filipino mother, the host-singer-songwriter-dancer-actor went to Professional Performing Arts School in New York City along with Mandy Moore, Nina Sky and Lee Thompson Young.
In 1995, Crawford was one of the back-up dancers of the late Michael Jackson at the MTV Video Music Awards. In 2003, Crawford won the International Male Artist of the Year award at the NRJ Music Awards beating Marshall Bruce “Eminem” Mathers III, Will Smith and Robbie Williams.
- Jay R
Born Gaudencio Sillona III in Glendale, Los Angeles County, California, Jay R is from a family of musicians. From 2003 to 2014, he released six studio albums titled “Gameface,” “Jay R,” “Christmas Away from Home,” “Soul in Love,” “Jay R Sings OPM Love Classics” and “Elevated.”
Dubbed the King of R&B in the Philippines, Jay R has recorded several collaboration songs with his female counterpart, the country’s Queen of R&B Melanie Alvarez, who is professionally known as Kyla. Among these are “Say that You Love Me,” “Fight for Tomorrow” and “You’re the One.”
- Kris Lawrence
Born Kristofer Lawrence Cadevida in Los Angeles, California, Lawrence is of dual American and Filipino citizenship. From 1998 to 2000, he and Jay R were members of the group called First Impression.
In 2006, Lawrence won the ABS-CBN talent competition show “Search for a Star in a Million” Season 2. He has since released four studio albums namely “Kris Lawrence,” “Moments of Love,” “Spread the Love” and “Most Requested Playlist.”
In 2015, Crawford, Jay R and Lawrence released their collaboration song titled “Fast Forward.” The three R&B singers are under Arnold Vegafria’s management outfit called ALV Talent Circuit.
The “Soul Brothers” guest performers are all male including “The Voice of the Philippines” Season 2 finalist Daryl Ong, “Little Big Star” Season 1 Big Division winner Sam Concepcion, Jay Durias of the pop and R&B band South Border and rapper Aristotle Pollisco, who is professionally known as Gloc-9.
