Teresita Ssen “Winwyn” Marquez, 25, took to Facebook to share a photo of herself kissing her Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 crown on November 5, 2017. Apparently, the Filipino beauty queen still cannot believe that she is now an international queen.
“I still can’t believe this is real,” Marquez captioned the photo. “Thank you very much!”
In 2015, Marquez joined her first major beauty pageant, Binibining Pilipinas, the national beauty pageant of the Philippines that selects the country’s candidates to Miss Universe and Miss International. After bagging the Miss Talent, Best in National Costume and She’s So JAG awards, she only landed in the Top 15 and did not advance further.
The top Binibining Pilipinas 2015 crown was given to Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, 28, who went on to become Miss Universe 2015. In 2016, Marquez took a break from beauty pageants.
But on September 3, 2017, Marquez returned and joined Miss World Philippines 2017. The top crown was given to Laura Lehmann, 23, while Marquez was chosen as the representative of the Philippines to Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 in Bolivia.
This made Marquez the very first candidate from Asia to join and win Reina Hispanoamericana 2017. She bested 26 other candidates from Hispanic-American countries.
Like the Philippines, it was also the first time for Canada and Australia to join Reina Hispanoamericana. Neither Miss Canada nor Miss Australia made it to the Top 10 of Reina Hispanoamerica 2017.
Miss Curazao Akisha Albert, 22, was crowned Virriena Hispanoamericana 2017 while Miss Brasil Lais Berte, 25, was first runner-up and Miss Venezuela Ma. Victoria D’ambrosio, 21, was second runner-up. Miss Bolivia Katherine Añazgo, 21, and Miss Mexico Karla Berumen, 21, were third runner-up and fourth runner-up, respectively.
