Pitting a UFC champion against another champion from ONE Championship would be phenomenal. In case this happens in the future, one great matchup would be a superfight between Conor “Notorious” McGregor of Ireland and Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of the Philippines.

Folayang became the ONE Championship lightweight world champion after defeating Shinya Aoki of Japan on Nov. 11, 2016 at “ONE Championship: Defending Honor” at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. The Team Lakay fighter won via technical knockout via punches.

On April 21, Folayang successfully defended the title from Ev “E.T.” Ting of Malaysia at “ONE Championship: Kings of Destiny” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. The reigning ONE lightweight world champion won via unanimous decision.

On May 1, I asked Folayang who his dream opponent was during a brief interview in Kapangan, Benguet. The Team Lakay fighter jokingly said it was McGregor, the reigning UFC lightweight champion.

Currently, Folayang holds a record of 18 wins and 5 losses. On the other hand, McGregor has 21 wins and 3 losses.

McGregor made his debut as a professional MMA fighter on March 8, 2008 at “COT 2: Cage of Truth,” where he defeated Gary Morris via technical knockout via punches. Folayang made his professional MMA debut on June 30, 2007 at “URCC 10- X,” where he defeated Allan Co via technical knockout via punches.

On Nov. 10, Friday, Folayang is returning to the SM Mall of Asia Arena to defend his title for the second time. He is challenged by ONE featherweight world champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen of Australia at “ONE: Legends of the World.”

The bout between Folayang and Nguyen at “ONE: Legends of the World” is a lightweight world championship match. In the co-main event, ONE flyweight world champion Adriano “Black Diamond” Moraes will be challenged by Folayang’s fellow Team Lakay Fighter Danny “The King” Kingad.
