Tommy Lynn Calhoun grew up in Paso Robles, California, United States then moved to Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, USA. She learned the American Sign Language  in order to communicate with her deaf biological mother.

On October 31, 2016, Calhoun competed against 25 other Miss Arizona USA 2017 candidates at the Mesa Arts Center in Mesa and won the title. On November 19, 2017, she crowned her successor Nicole Justine Smith of Phoenix, Maricopa County at the same venue.
