When Manushi Chhillar, 20, was crowned Miss World 2017 on November 18, 2017 in Sanya, China, fans from around the world noticed that she looks like several celebrities. Among them is Academy Award winner Penelope Cruz, 43.
Chhillar was born in Sonipat, Haryana, India. While attending the Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonipat, she represented Haryana at Femina Miss India 2017 on June 25 and won the top crown, making her India’s Miss World 2017 representative.
Both Chhillar’s parents are doctors. Her father Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar is a scientist at the Defence Research and Development Organisation in New Delhi, India and her mother Dr. Neelam Chhillar works at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences in New Delhi as the department head of chemistry and an associate professor.
Manushi is the first candidate from India to win Miss World since Priyanka Chopra, 35, who won the crown in 2000. The former may have to give up her medical career if she chooses to follow the footsteps of the latter as a Bollywood actress who became a Hollywood star.
On the other hand, Cruz was born in Madrid, Spain. Her late father Eduardo Cruz was a retailer and car mechanic while her mother Encarna Sancez was a hairdresser and personal manager.
Before becoming an award-winning actress, Cruz studied classical ballet at Spain’s National Conservatory and theatre at Cristina Rota’s New York School.
In 2018, Cruz will star in “American Crime Story” Season 2. She will play Donatella Cruz while Darren Criss will play Andrew Cunanan.
On the big screen, Cruz is set to star in two 2018 movies. She will star in Asghar Farhadi’s “Everybody Knows” opposite her husband Javier Bardiem and in Todd Solondz’s “Love Child” opposite Edgar Ramirez.
