On Nov. 24, Friday, Mei Yamaguchi of Japan and Gina “Conviction” Iniong had their rematch at “ONE: Immortal Pursuit” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. Their atomweight bout was the first fight in the main card.
Yamaguchi and Iniong first fought at “PXC: Pacific Xtreme Combat 43” on March 29, 2014. The Filipino fighter defeated her Japanese opponent via split decision after three five-minute rounds.
At “ONE: Immortal Pursuit,” the rematch between Yamaguchi and Iniong lasted for three five-minute rounds again. It was left to the hands of the judges who made a unanimous decision in favor of the Japanese fighter.
With a redemptive win, Yamaguchi upgraded her record to 17 wins and 10 losses. On the other hand, Iniong’s record downgraded to 6 wins and 3 losses.
The rematch between Yamaguchi and Iniong was not originally planned to be included in the “ONE: Immortal Pursuit” fight card. The former was set to challenge reigning ONE Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee.
However, due to a vehicular accident, Lee could not make it to the fight night. The championship bout was cancelled but Iniong accepted the offer to fight Yamaguchi in the main card of “ONE: Immortal Pursuit” on short notice.
Iniong just came from a fight at her home country Philippines. She defeated Priscilla Lumbal Gaol of Indonesia at “ONE: Legends of the World” on Nov. 10.
