If Venezuela wins Miss Universe 2017, it will become the country with the most winners in the beauty pageant currently owned by WME/IMG talent agency tied with the United States. Venezuela has won seven times while the U.S. has won eight times.

On Nov. 26, Sunday, Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere of France will crown her successor from the 92 candidates, 11 of which are from South America including the candidate from Venezuela:

Venezuela won Miss Universe in 1970, 1985, 1993, 1996, 2001, 2006, and 2013. Both Brazil and Colombia have won twice.

The Miss Universe winners from Venezuela are Maritza Sayalero, Irene Saez, Barbara Palacios, Alicia Machado, Dayana Mendoza, Stefania Fernandez and Gabriela Isler. The winners from the U.S. are Miriam Stevenson, Carol Morris, Linda Bement, Sylvia Hitchcock, Shawn Weatherly, Chelsi Smith, Brook Lee and Olivia Culpo.

Ieda Maria Vargas and Martha Vasconcellos of Brazil won Miss Universe in 1963 and 1968, respectively. Luz Marina Zuluaga and Paulina Vega of Colombia won in 1958 and 2014.

In 2015, Vega passed her crown to her fellow Colombian beauty queen, Ariadna Gutierrez. However, it turned out that Miss Universe 2015 host Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner since Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines was the correct winner and Gutierrez was the runner-up.
