Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere, 24, of France has crowned her successor. The new queen is Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, 22, of South Africa.
The Miss Universe 2017 grand coronation night took place on November 26, 2017 at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Peters bested 91 other candidates representing different countries and territories.
Steve Harvey, 60, returned as the host of the prestigious beauty pageant. “America’s Next Top Model” Cycle 23 judge Ashley Graham, 30, was his co-host.
Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach was one of the six judges during the final telecast. Her fellow judges were Ross Matthews, 38, Lele Pons, 21, Fox Sports 1 host and reporter Megan Olivi, 31, Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam, 45, and former “America’s Next Top Model” judge Jay Manuel, 45.
Olivi and Fitzwilliam were also among the six judges during the preliminaries. The other four were Slay Models founder and director Cecilio Asuncion, TAO restaurant group marketing director Morgan Dean, IMG Models scout Isabelle Lindblom and IDT Telecom CEO, president and co-chairman Bill Pereira.
Miss Thailand Maria Poonlertlarp, 25, and Miss Venezuela Keysi Sayago, 23, finished in the Top 5. Runner-up to Nel-Peters was Miss Colombia Laura Gonzalez, 22, while Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett, 21, was second runner-up.
Nel-Peters is the second Miss South Africa to win Miss Universe. The first one is Miss Universe 1978 Margaret Gardiner, 58.
