Should we follow a strict diet on holidays or just enjoy the lavish meals with our families? This is the question I asked actress, singer and host Carla Abellana during a conference on November 27, 2017 at the GMA Building in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

Present along with Abellana during the conference, which was for the launching of new lifegetsbetter.ph website, was Chef Jackie Ang Po. The two are back as hosts of the weekly cooking show “Del Monte Kitchenomics.”

Around the world, preparing lavish meals on holidays regardless of financial status has been a tradition. Many celebrants are prone to eating and drinking to excess that may lead to health complications.

For Abellana, it is not necessary to become strictly health-conscious on holidays. She said it is okay to enjoy the celebration with the family as long as things are done in moderation.

I also asked Abellana about the assigning of the cooking task at home between a couple. For her, it is a case-to-case basis and as an example, she said her brother-in-law is a chef so he is expectedly the one in charge of the kitchen.

The traditional assigning of household chores to women is slowly fading as the society gets more and more modernized, Abellana acknowledged. However, for her, she would still prefer to follow the tradition of being the wife and the mother in charge of the cooking and other chores at home.

Abellana graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the De La Salle University. She is in a relationship with fellow GMA actor Tom Rodriguez.

The last time Abellana and Rodriguez co-starred in a project was on the romantic drama series “I Heart Davao,” which aired on GMA from June 26, 2017 to August 18, 2017. Watch my full interview with Abellana here:
