Ahmet Gargi, 21, of Northern Cyprus went to Kaohsiung, Taiwan in November 2017 to participate in the Mister Ocean 2017 beauty pageant. Including him, 49 men from different countries and territories competed for the title.

Among the candidates, the latest one to arrive in Taiwan was Gargi, who is a university student. He had to take a master exam on November 19, 2017 so he arrived in Taiwan on November 21, 2024 and the coronation ceremony was held on November 24, 2017.

In a short period of time, the Mister Ocean 2017 candidates and the team of Golden International Corporation head and president Christine Huang spent “a great and unforgettable time together,” Gargi said in a statement exclusively obtained by CONAN Daily. In particular, he said “the bus trips were very enjoyable.”

Gargi is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in food engineering at Near East University, a private university in North Nicosia, Northern Cyprus. On his first day at Mister Ocean 2017, he said he was greeted warmly at the gate of the hotel where the candidates were billeted.

During the camp period, the candidates Gargi considered his closest friends were Mister Latvia Ivo Lesnieks, Mister Canada Benjamin Quinn Wills, Mister Australia Memphis James and Mister Cote d’Ivoire Paul-Abraham Kobieni. The Near East University student described the people he met at Mister Ocean 2017 as “really kindhearted men.”

After making it to the semifinals, Gargi was not able to proceed to the Top 5 during the coronation night. It was Mister Bosnia and Herzegovina Ermin Poturak who was given the honor to hold the very first Mister Ocean title.

Despite not winning the title, Gargi is very thankful to all of his new friends and the pageant directors for being a part of his life and giving him unforgettable memories. He said, “I could say that we, as the first contestants of Mister Ocean, had great bonding.”

“Now, I have 48 brothers all over the world,” Gargi continued. “Thank you for everything, Mister Ocean. Thank you, Taiwan.”
