Mark Striegl to face Korean opponent at URCC’s ‘BETS IV’ in Cebu

Before 2018, Mark “Mugen” Striegl, 29, will be back into the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) cage. He will headline “Battle Extreme Tournament of Superstars IV,” or “BETS IV,” along with his Korean opponent Kim Ki Sung.

In Striegl’s professional MMA career, Kim will be his third opponent from South Korea. The first two were Bae Yong Kwon and Jang Yong Kim.

On Aug. 1, 2010, Striegl defeated Bae via unanimous decision at “Pro Fighting 4: 180” at the Luxy Contemporary Nightlife Complex in Taipei, Taiwan. The Filipino-American fighter went on to become one of the most promising fighters in Asia with an undefeated record.

But that record was broken on Sept. 14, 2013. Jang submitted Striegl at 1:43 of Round 3 via leg scissor choke at “PXC: Pacific Xtreme Combat 39” at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, Metro Manila.

Aside from Jang, there is only one other opponent Strieg lost to. Reece McLaren of Australia submitted him at 3:33 of Round 3 via rear-naked choke at “ONE Championship 36: Spirit of Champions” on Dec. 11, 2015 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Against those 2 losses are 16 wins, three of which are under the URCC. After defeating Bae, Striegl made his URCC debut at “URCC Baguio 3: Invasion” where he submitted Team Lakay fighter Crisanto Pitpitunge at 5:37 of Round 1 via rear-naked choke at Baguio Convention Center in Baguio City on Feb. 19, 2011.

On April 28, 2012, Striegl returned to the URCC cage and won again by submitting Alcer Lozada at 3:24 of Round 1 via rear-naked choke at “URCC 21: Warpath” at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. After this, it took Striegl more than five years before he fought again under the URCC.

Striegl’s third URCC bout and most recent fight took place on Aug. 12 at “URCC 30” at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. He won by submitting Andrew Benibe at 0:53 of Round 1 via scarf hold armlock.

Seven bouts are under the “BETS IV” main event featuring Striegl versus Kim. The bouts will take place at the Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino Mactan in Cebu on Dec. 13.

On Nov. 18, Striegl was at the Mall of Asia Arena but not as a fighter. He was one of the celebrity models who walked the runway wearing underwear during the 30th anniversary of the Bench brand.

Also, Striegl shares a scene with Vice Ganda in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2017 entry “Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad,” which also stars Daniel Padilla and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.  Watch the trailer here:
