GMA Network is rumored to be releasing the Filipino remake of “Descendants of the Sun,” which originally starred South Korean superstars and newlywed couple Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo. Alden Richards is said to have been tapped to play Joong Ki’s character.
Richards will reportedly not star opposite his AlDub partner Maine Mendoza in the “Descendants of the Sun” remake. GMA is looking for an actress who will play Hye Kyo’s role, a source told Filipino publication Abante Tonite.
This is not the first time GMA Network is remaking a Korean hit series. Recently, the major commercial broadcast television and radio network in the Philippines released a remake of “My Love from the Star,” which originally starred Jun Ji Hyun, Kim Soo Hyun, Park Hae Jin and Yoo In Na.
The Filipino version of “My Love from the Star” starred Jennylyn Mercado and Gil Cuerva. Originally, Richards was set to play Cuerva’s role in the remake but the AlDub fans complained so the role was given to the newer and younger actor.
In other news, Richards was one of the celebrities who participated in the Miss Possibilities Foundation’s Pageant and Celebrity Inclusive Fashion Show. The aim of the beauty pageant and runway show for special children is to create “a place where all of us are included and celebrated for all of our differences,” Phil Star quoted Miss Possibilities Foundation Founder and President Suzanna Pavadee Vichienrut Yuzon as saying.
The event was claimed to be the first of its kind in Asia. Aside from Richards, Carla Abellana, Judy Ann Santos and Billy Crawford also joined the show.
