SHINee’s Jonghyun committed suicide, no autopsy needed: Police

No autopsy will be performed on the body of the late Kim Jong-hyun, who was professionally known as Jonghyun.  The authorities have ruled that the death of the K-Pop boy band SHINee member was suicide.

The family of Jonghyun did not want an autopsy to be performed, Korea Times quoted an official at Gangnam Police Station as saying on Dec. 19, Tuesday. The singer-songwriter was found unconscious in his apartment in Seoul on Dec. 18, Monday, and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jonghyun’s family and friends told police that he had shown depression symptoms for a long time. The authorities confirmed that there were no signs of murder.

On Dec. 21, Thursday, a private funeral was held at Asan Medical Center. S.M. Entertainment also prepared a separate area at the hospital for fans to pay their respect.

During the procession at the Asan Medican Centre, Jonghyun’s sister Kim So-dam and SHINee member Minho were at the front. Kim was carrying a framed picture of his late brother while Minho was holding a plaque topped with a cross and with the words, “Kim Jong Hyun, believer.”

SHINee members Taemin, Onew and Key were accompanied by Super Junior members Leeteuk, Eunhyuk and Donghae as the pallbearers who carried the coffin to the hearse, a black Limousine that was driven to the private funeral. Both SHINee and Super Junior are managed by S.M. Entertainment.

Other K-pop artists reportedly attended the funeral. Among them were BoA, NCT, BTS and Girls’ Generation. Around 1000 fans showed up at the Asan Medican Centre but the burial site location was not revealed to allow Jonghyun’s family to mourn in private.
