Fighting out of Dagestan, Makhachkala, Russia, Ultimate Fighting Championship athlete Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov is still an undefeated professional mixed martial artist. His most recent opponent was Edson “Junior” Barboza Jr., who was born in Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

On December 30, 2017, Nurmagomedov and Barboza co-headlined “UFC 219” at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, United States. They battled it out in the lightweight division.

John McCarthy served as the referee. After three 5-minute rounds, he raised the hand of Nurmagomedov, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

This made Barboza the ninth UFC fighter to lose to Nurmagomedov. The first one was Kamal Shalorus, who lost to the undefeated Dagestani MMA fighter via rear-naked choke in the third round on January 20, 2012.

Gleison Tibau and Thiago Tavares were the second and third UFC fighters to lose to Nurmagomedov. The Russian fighter defeated Tibau via unanimous decision on July 7, 2012 and knocked out Tavares on Jan. 19, 2013.

Abel Trujillo and Pat Healy are the fourth and fifth UFC fighters to lose to Nurmagomedov. Both via unanimous decision, Nurmagomedov defeated Trujillo at “UFC 160” on May 25, 2013 and Healy at “UFC 165” on September 21, 2013.

Before “UFC 219”, the most recent UFC fighters Nurmagomedov defeated were Rafael dos Anjos, Darrell Horcher and Michael Johnson. Dos Anjos lost to the Russian fighter via unanimous decision on April 19, 2014.

Horcher was knocked out by Nurmagomedov on April 16, 2016. Johnson was submitted by the Russian fighter via kimura on November 12, 2016.
