Murthel “The Predator” Groenhart, 31, is set to defend his title as Glory Welterweight Champion at the main event of “Glory 50: Chicago.” The Dutch-Surinamese kickboxer will face his Armenian-Belgian challenger Harut Grigorian, 28, in a rematch at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago on February 16, 2018.
Groenhart made his professional kickboxing debut in 2004. He won his first three fights via decision.
Prior to “Glory 50: Chicago,” Grigorian lost to Groenhart twice. The latter defeated the former in Madrid, Spain in 2012 at “K-1 World MAX 2012 World Championship Tournament Final 16” and in Paris, France in 2017 at “Glory 42: Paris.”
Currently, Grigorian has 55 wins and 11 losses. He was born in Talin, Aragatsotn, Armenia but fights out of Antwerp, Belgium.
On the other hand, Groenhart was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands. His current record is 65 wins, 23 losses and 3 draws and he was the Glory Welterweight Contender Tournament winner in 2015 an in 2016.
Four contenders will compete at the Heavyweight Contender Tournament Semi-finals at “Glory 50: Chicago” to help them earn a shot for a Glory Championship. Guto Inocente of Brazil will face Junior Tafa of Australia while Benjamin Adegbuyi of Romania will face D’Angelo Marshall of Curacao.
“Glory 50: Chicago” will mark Groenhart’s first time to defend his title as the Glory Welterweight Champion. He won the title after defeating Cedric Doumbe of France in 2017 in Hoffman Estates, Illinois at “Glory 44: Chicago.” Watch the fight here:
