A member of the K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation since 2007, Im Yoon-ah, who is professionally known as Yoona, made her film debut in 2017. She played a supporting role in “Confidential Assignment,” which earned her a nomination from the 12th Asian Film Awards.

For her role as Park Min-young in “Confidential Assignment,” Yoona was nominated as Best Newcomer at the 2018 Asian Film Awards. Her follow nominees are “Wilderness” actress Akari Kinoshita from Japan, “Bad Genius” actress Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying from Thailand, “Tomorrow is Another Day” actress Ling Man-lung from Hong Kong and Chinese actresses Zhong Chuxi and Zhou Meijun, who respectively starred in “Youth” and “Angels Wear White.”

The 2018 Asian Film Awards nominees were announced by the Asian Film Awards Academy on January 11, 2018. The winners will be announced during the awards ceremony at The Venetian Macao in Macau on March 17, 2018.

This is the first time Yoona received a nomination from the Asian Film Awards. While “Confidential Assignment” is the first film she starred in, she made her acting debut in 2007 when she played Shin Joo-young in the MBC series “Two Outs in the Ninth Inning.”

In 2016, Yoona played a lead character named Xiahou Qingyi/Ma Yurou in the Hunan Television series “God of War, Zhao Yun.” The Chinese series earned her the Special Recognition Award for Contribution to Asian Cultural Exchange at the 2017 Asian Drama Conference.

In 2017, Yoona was named the Most Popular Actress in the film category of the 53rd Baeksang Arts Awards for her role in “Confidential Assignment.” She was also nominated as Best New Actress but lost to “Our Love Story” actress Lee Sang-hee.

“Confidential Assignment” was written by Yoon Hyun-ho and directed by Kim Sung-hoon. Among Yoona’s co-stars were Hyun Bin, Yoo Hae-jin, Kim Joo-hyuk, Jang Young-nam, Park Min-ha and Lee Dong-hwi.
