Rene Catalan of the Philippines was one of the winners at “ONE: Kings of Courage”, a mixed martial arts event held at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia on January 20, 2018. It is the first ONE Championship live event in 2018.

In the third bout and first match in the main card, Catalan turned in one of his most dominant performances to date against China’s Peng Xue Wen. The Filipino MMA fighter won by technical knockout to score his fourth straight victory inside the ONE Championship cage.

Catalan 18 years Peng’s senior. The former dominated the striking exchanges and matched the latter, a Greco Roman wrestling champion, in the grappling department.

In the second round, Catalan dropped Peng with a liver shot and swarmed him on the ground. Catalan improved his professional MMA record to 4 wins, 2 losses and 1 No Contest while Peng now has 1 win and 2 losses.

Peng’s fellow Chinese fighter Jing Nan “The Panda” Xiong headlined the event with Tiffany Teo of Singapore. Catalan was the only Filipino fighter on the fight card.

Xiong was crowned the inaugural ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion with a technical knockout victory over Teo. In the co-main event of the evening, Indonesia’s Stefer Rahardian defeated Pakistan’s Muhammad Imran via unanimous decision.
