ONE Championship held “ONE: Kings of Courage” at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia on January 20, 2018. The seventh bout of the evening was the card’s highly anticipated grappling match between Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki of Japan and Marat “Cobra” Gafurov of Russia.

Aoki is a former ONE Lightweight World Champion. Gafurov is a former ONE Featherweight World Champion.

In an entertaining display of grappling mastery between two submission wizards, Aoki emerged triumphant against Gafurov. Tearing a page out of his opponent’s playbook, the Japanese mixed martial artist took his Russian opponent’s back and submitted him with a tight rear-naked choke to earn a much needed victory.

It was on May 26, 2017 when ONE Championship had its first ever grappling match. It was between Aoki and submission wizard Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon of the United States at “ONE: Dynasty of Heroes” in Singapore.

Tonon emerged victorious. Halfway through the contest, he caught Aoki in a heel hook forcing a tap from the Japanese martial arts veteran.

In the main event of “ONE: Kings of Courage,” “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan of China was crowned the inaugural ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion with a technical knockout victory over Singapore’s Tiffany Teo. In the co-main event of the evening, Stefer Rahardian of Indonesia defeated Pakistan’s Muhammad Imran via unanimous decision.
