Philippines deeply appreciates martial arts: ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong

22 January 2018 – Manila, Philippines: The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), held the official “ONE: Global Superheroes” kick-off press conference on January 22, 2018 at the Manila Grand Ballroom of the City of Dreams. In attendance were ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong, Global Citizen co-founder and Managing Director Wei Soo, City of Dreams Manila Vice President for Gaming Operations Kevin Benning.

“It is always great to be back in Manila because the Philippines is one of the countries that truly and deeply appreciates martial arts,” Sityodtong stated. “This is the reason why ONE Championship continually upkeeps holding blockbuster shows for our passionate Filipino fans. ONE Championship is set to hold four events in the country for 2018, and our first Manila card for this year will put fans on the edge of their seats, making them crave for more authentic martial arts action.”

Headquartered in New York with offices in Canada, Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom, Global Citizen was founded in 2012 with the goal of building the largest platform where people can learn about issues, take action on what matters most, and join a global movement working to end extreme poverty by 2030. Since then, millions of Global Citizens around the world have taken over 10 million actions including millions of emails, tweets, petition signatures, and phone calls targeting world leaders to help achieve the goal.

To date, the actions by Global Citizen’s global community, along with its high-level advocacy efforts and various partners, have resulted in 130 commitments and policy announcements from leaders. These include financial aid valued at over US $35-billion, which is set to affect the lives of over 1.3 billion people.

ONE Championship fighters Brandon “The Truth” Vera, Angela “Unstoppable” Lee and Eduard “Landslide” Folayang were selected as Global Citizen ambassadors. They are the respective reigning Heavyweight World Champion, Women’s Atomweight World Champion and former Lightweight World Champion of the promotion.

Vera, Lee and Folayang joined Sityodtong, Soo and Benning at the “ONE: Global Superheroes” kick-off press conference. Also in attendance during the were main event competitors Geje Eustaquio of the Philippines and Kairat Akhmetov of Kazakhstan along with other fighters in the card, Joshua Pacio, Eric Kelly, Lan Ming Qiang and Rafael Nunes.

Eustaquio and Akhtemov will be competing for the ONE Interim Flyweight World Championship in the headline bout of “ONE: Global Superheroes,” which takes place on January 26, 2018 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila. The strawweight bout between Pacio and Lan will be the co-main event.
