A proud member of the famed Team Lakay in Baguio City, Philippines, Joshua Pacio, 22, would have still been an undefeated fighter if he did not lose to Japanese martial arts veterans Yoshitaka Naito, 33, for Hayato Suzuki, 31. For Pacio, these losses are part of his growth as an MMA fighter.

On January 26, 2018, Pacio will face Lan Ming Qiang, 24, of Guangxi, China in a strawweight bout in the co-main event of “ONE: Global Superheroes” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. The Team Lakay fighter believes that he has more experience than his Chinese opponent, who is making his ONE Championship debut.

“I have more experience, and I believe the two losses that I have suffered in my career have taught me a lot,” Pacio stated. “I see those setbacks as an advantage, rather than just a blemish on my record.”

The strawweight match against Lan at “ONE: Global Superheroes” means a lot to Pacio. He explained, “I want to prove that I deserve to be competing on this international stage. I want to show to my countrymen that we also excel in martial arts, and to inspire more youths to pursue their respective dreams.”

Pacio is one of the fastest rising martial arts stars from the Philippines and is one of the promotion’s most talented strawweight contenders. He is a wushu practitioner with a solid grappling repertoire.

All but one of Pacio’s 10 career victories have come by spectacular finish, including five wins by submission and four by devastating knockout. In his most recent bout, he knocked out veteran Roy Doliguez with a second-round spinning back fist.

A former ONE Strawweight World Championship Title Challenger, Pacio is looking to bring himself back to title contention with another victory. A tough task is ahead of him, however, as he is slated to lock horns with Lan.

“ONE: Global Superheroes” will be headlined by Pacio’s fellow Team Lakay fighter Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio and Kairat Akhmetov of Kazakhstan. Team Lakay’s Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly and April Osenio are also in the fight card and are set to face Meas Meu of Cambodia and Jomary Torres, respectively.
