April Osenio, 23, may be on the first losing streak of her young professional career, but the Team Lakay atomweight heroine believes that she can turn her luck around inside the ONE Championship cage. Hoping to re-insert her name into the winner’s column, she takes on a breakout martial arts superstar in undefeated compatriot Jomary “The Zamboanganian Fighter” Torres, 21, on January 26, 2018.

The two talented Filipino martial artists are set to square off in the undercard of “ONE: Global Superheroes,” which takes place at the 20,000-seater SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines. They will compete in the atomweight division.

Osenio is a Philippine national Wushu champion. On the other hand, Torres is a protege of multiple-time wushu world champion Rene Catalan, who is also a ONE Championship fighter.

The Team Lakay fighter knows of the tough challenge that lies ahead of her. With this in mind, she promises to give fans her best effort and turn this into a stand-up war with Torres.

“I would say I have not changed a lot,” Osenio shared. “I have just been working on improving my skills. My style is still the same.”

“I focus on my Wushu and really want to test my opponent’s striking abilities,” the Team Lakay fighter added. “I am excited to show everyone how much better I am this time around.”

Eyeing a redemptive win, Osenio is coming off a two-bout losing skid. The Baguio City native yielded to former atomweight world title contender Jenny Huang, 27, in December 2016 via second-round submission before being thwarted by current ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion Jing Nan “The Panda” Xiong, 30, in December 2017.

Including Osenio, there are four Team Lakay fighters in the “ONE: Global Superheroes” fight card. Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, 33, will face Cambodia’s Meas Meu, 28, in the featherweight division, Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 22, will compete with China’s Lan Ming Qiang, 24, in the co-main event, which is a strawweight bout, and Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 28, will have a rematch with Kazakhstan’s Kairat Akhtemov, 30, in the main event, which is a ONE Interim Flyweight World Championship match.
