It is common to hear MMA fighters either complain or brag about taking a fight on short notice. But for April Osenio, 23, of Team Lakay in Baguio City, Philippines, every fighter should always be ready to fight.
With the objective to place herself back on the winning track, Osenio chose not to wallow over her first-round stoppage loss to Jing Nan “The Panda” Xiong, 28, in December 2017. The Team Lakay fighter jumps right back into action by facing her fellow Filipino fighter Jomary “The Zamboanganian Fighter” Torres, 21, on January 26, 2018 at “ONE: Global Superheroes.”
“I was back in training camp as soon as I got the call,” Osenio explained. “For me, every time is training time. I train three times a day. It’s my responsibility, and it keeps me prepared for whatever comes my way.”
“I’m very excited to be called up to compete again, especially in front of a hometown crowd,” Osenio added. “Being called up to compete on another blockbuster card shows that ONE Championship believes in me and the skills that I have.”
For Osenio, it is an honor to share the cage with a brilliant and outstanding martial artist like Torres. The Team Lakay fighter said she is ready to give the fans an exciting match.
Osenio is brimming with pride and excitement as she desires to quickly bounce back from her recent string of setbacks. There are exactly 48 days between her last ONE Championship outing and the upcoming three-round atomweight encounter with Torres.
But Osenio assured that she has fully recovered and is ready to give it her all inside the cage. She said she had enough time to recover from her last trip to the cage.
“ONE: Global Superheroes” will take place at the 20,000-seater SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Aside from Osenio, there are three other Team Lakay fighters in the fight card, namely Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 28, Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 22, and Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, 33.
In the main event, Eustaquio and Kazakhstan’s Kairat Akhtemov, 30, will have a rematch in a ONE Interim Flyweight World Championship bout, and in the co-main event, Pacio will face China’s Lan Ming Qiang, 24, in a strawweight bout. Kellywill face Cambodia’s Meas Meu, 28, in the featherweight division.
