On January 26, 2018, ONE Championship held its first event in the Philippines in 2018 titled “ONE: Global Superheroes” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila. In the fifth bout of the evening, Emilio “The Honey Badger” Urrutia, 31, of the United States and Bruno “Pucci Bull” Pucci, 27, of Brazil competed in the featherweight division.
Urrutia continued his impressive run in ONE Championship, knocking out Pucci at 3:33 of Round 1. The former stifled his opponent, who is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion, with crisp boxing combinations, making it difficult for the Brazilian to bring the action to the mat.
“ONE: Global Superheroes” marked Urrutia’s 15th bout as a professional MMA fighter. He secured the statement-making finish by connecting on a sensational left hook past the midway point, sending Pucci crashing to the canvas.
After defeating Pucci, Urrutia now has 11 wins and 4 losses. On the other hand, Pucci’s record is now 5 wins and 3 losses.
In the main event of “ONE: Global Superheroes,” Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio of the Philippines clinched the ONE Interim Flyweight World Championship, edging Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov by unanimous decision in an exhilarating five-round title tilt. Although Akhmetov managed to showcase his wrestling, it was largely ineffective against Eustaquio, who was far superior in the striking department for the majority of the bout.
In the co-main event, Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 22, of the Philippines unveiled an improved grappling game, submitting China’s Lan Ming Qiang via rear naked choke in the very first round. Pacio started off with his world-class wushu, operating from range with fast and powerful kicks.
