“ONE: Global Superheroes,” the first ONE Championship event in the Philippines in 2018, took place on January 26, 2018 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila. In the sixth bout of the evening, Hayato Suzuki, 31, of Japan and Yago Bryan, 25, of Brazil battled it out in a strawweight bout.

Coming from a first-time loss, Suzuki was able to redeem himself placing himself back on the winning track. The Japanese grappling prodigy pulled off a first-round submission victory over former world title contender.

Suzuki ended the bout against Bryan at 4:03 of Round 1. With 57 seconds remaining in the opening period of the strawweight contest, Suzuki latched onto a wrenching rear-naked choke to force the tap, notching his eighth submission win as a professional.

Before “ONE: Global Superheroes,” Suzuki lost for the first time when Alex Silva submitted him via armbar at “ONE: Legends of the World” on November 10, 2017 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Silva is now the reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion.

In the main event of “ONE: Global Superheroes,” Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 28, of the Philippines clinched the ONE Interim Flyweight World Championship, edging Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov, 30, by unanimous decision in an exhilarating five-round title tilt. Although Akhmetov managed to showcase his wrestling, it was largely ineffective against Eustaquio, who was far superior in the striking department for the majority of the bout.

In the co-main event, Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 22, of the Philippines unveiled an improved grappling game, submitting Lan Ming Qiang, 24, of China via rear naked choke in the very first round. Pacio started off with his world-class wushu, operating from range with fast and powerful kicks.
