Sam-A Gaiyanghadao of Thailand and Joseph “The Hurricane” Lasiri of Italy were the contenders in the first ever traditional Muay Thai bout inside the ONE Championship cage. It was the eighth bout at “ONE: Global Superheroes” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on January 26, 2018.
Gaiyanghadao is a multi-division Lumpinee World Champion. Lasiri is a World Boxing Council (WBC) Muay Thai Super Bantamweight World Champion.
From the moment Gaiyanghadao trotted out to the cage at “ONE: Global Superheroes,” the crowd was firmly on his side. After dropping several times, Lasiri did not want to lose without a fight.
Lasiri aggressively tried to find his way inside Gaiyanghadao’s defense. However, the Thai contender made it clear that he was not allowing his Italian opponent to see the third round.
From start to finish, Gaiyanghadao showcased his trademark power to dominate. He won by technical knockout via strikes at 2:30 of Round 2.
In the main event of “ONE: Global Superheroes,” Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, 28, of the Philippines clinched the ONE Interim Flyweight World Championship, edging Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov, 30, by unanimous decision in an exhilarating five-round title tilt. In the co-main event, Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, 22, of the Philippines unveiled an improved grappling game, submitting Lan Ming Qiang, 24, of China via rear naked choke in the very first round.
