Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, 33, of Team Lakay could not hold back his tears after his historical win at “ONE: Global Superheroes” in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on January 26, 2018. He knocked out Meas Meul of Cambodia at 21 seconds in the first round.
This is the fastest knockout in a featherweight bout in the history of ONE Championship. Kelly achieved this through a three-strike combination.
During his emotional post-fight interview with Mitch Chilson in the cage, Kelly said that his victory over Meul was special. Aside from winning in front of his countrymen, he was able to redeem himself after losing to Emilio “The Honey Badger” Urrutia, 31, at “ONE: Quest for Greatness” via unanimous decision on August 18, 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
It was Kelly’s only fight in 2017. He admitted that losing to Urrutia did affect him negatively.
Urrutia was also in another featherweight match at “ONE: Global Superheroes.” He defeated Bruno Pucci, 27, via a third-round knockout.
After winning at “ONE: Global Superheroes,” Kelly now has 9 wins and 4 losses. Before losing to Urrutia, the Team Lakay fighter lost to Herbert “The Blaze” Burns, 30, of Brazil, Ev “E.T.” Ting, 28, of New Zealand and Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen, 28, of Australia.
Nguyen is currently the reigning ONE Featherweight and Lightweight World Champion. He won the lightweight title by dethroning Kelly’s fellow Team Lakay fighter Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 33.
On the other hand, Kelly is the first fighter to defeat Meul. The Cambodian fighter now has 6 wins and 1 loss. Watch their featherweight bout at “ONE: Global Superheroes” here:
